Preparing for Migration
Before you can move your Joomla! website to WordPress, there are certain things which needs to be considered first. This is required to allow the smooth transition and to avoid any problems or errors during the process.
It does not matter if you have already created a fully functional Joomla! website or just made a fraction of it, you can move an incomplete website as well to a new CMS platform and have it built to work just like a normal website should when it’s live on the internet.
Thus, having said that, let’s go ahead and see a couple of important things which needs to be considered before you can start the migration process.
The migration process will move your Joomla! website and certain content such as articles, if you have any, and will automatically convert them into WordPress posts.
However, your Joomla! components, plug-ins or extensions, templates, etc., will not be transferred because WordPress has its own modules and templates that allow similar functionality to websites.
It is required that both Joomla! and WordPress must have the same database, for example, MySQL database.
You will also need details of your Joomla! site database, such as the name of your database, the prefix of your database, login user name and password for the database.
If you do not have these details, you can get it from your web hosting provider company.
